ABOUT ME
I'm a Writer, Artist and Creative Inspirationalist living and working in Melbourne, Australia.
My prints are created to bring joy, and in some cases a connection to nature, particularly with the Endangered Collection.
This resource is also in response to close family, friends and students needing a boost to be their creative selves.
Sass is Sarah’s nickname from childhood, and a fun slogan I like too is
LILAC stands for:
Living Intentionally Like A Creative
There is a need to find time, energy, support and bravery to get creative.
These are the main challenges.
Creativity must be fed …. and suddenly more appears
You may share similar experiences:
I ignored my creativity and felt left out, disappointed, lost and unfulfilled.
I:
-
Looked at people’s projects and my own old creations and felt unsure how to get creative again
-
Forgot how to play
-
Overthought how to start & worried about resources
I needed to first:
-
Re discover my passions and calmness
-
Find or buy art resources
Sass and LILAC wants to support our actions to live more creatively
Ignoring your creativity- not recommended!
I'm not sure about you, but I am highly skilled at ignoring my creative interests. Examples include:
1) I STOPPED art when I started a new school in year 10, aged 15. I rationalised the school fees were already so high I better not get art supplies.
2) STOPPED drama after year 10 or 11 because I had to do 'serious' subjects. Same goes with doing a Politics major rather than history at university. (No tiny violin music though- it was a good life lesson).
But then …
The universe, or whatever force it was, such as a total love for all things creative was still there so:
1) I selected art & drama elective subjects in a Masters of Primary teaching degree. This led me to seek out one on one acting scene training, and subsequent short acting courses, and also had me painting on canvases.
The creativity kept going and ...
I completed two television presentation courses, ballroom dancing and comedy writing, stand up and improv classes, picture book writing courses and more.
- Made comedic cooking videos and English phrase videos.
-Directed short videos for a travel app idea and attended weekly lean- film making evenings with guest filmmaker speakers
ALSO,
in 2019 I got my French on, and
joined a cooking class in Paris in 2019 that included teachings from a world champion macaron maker Pierre Hermé. Previous to that as a Francophile, I have attended French film festivals, French speaking nights to practise my French and have volunteered at Bastille Day festivals.
In 2020 and 2021 the creativity came and went, just like all the lockdowns in Melbourne, 6. When it was over I loved getting back to painting and other creative pursuits. I was really heartened to be an extra on an Aussie T.V show after this time.
In 2023, I exhibited approximately 6 1980's inspired acrylic collage paintings and directed and made 3 original films based of 3 of these paintings. This work was on display from May 5-18 at Off the Kerb Gallery in Collingwood.
It's great to reflect when we can on- How did your creative activity go and how is it now?
Let's stay Creative in 2025.
